Unite Mathematique, Informatique et Genome (MIG), is a French research laboratory which belongs to the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, INRA. The INRA research on information systems has an emerging interest in knowledge extraction from scientific literature. It is addressed in close relation with the integration of gene function annotations, issued from large scale analyses of genomes. These are based on new experimental methods, such as DNA chips, and bioinformatics.

Technical University of Denmark, Center of Knowledge Technology (DTU)

CVT is an interdisciplinary center at the Technical University of Denmark supporting education and research at the university. CVT also provides services on a national level and for private customers. CVT provides information on science and technology to and about DTU. CVT disseminates and develops didactic methods and tools. CVT also develops IT-systems for scientific information and communication. Furthermore CVT carries out research analysis and registration. The expertise relevant to the project includes the organization of electronic publishing in science and global information architectures and technologies for networked information brokerage and dissemination.

Index Data is an SME with offices in Copenhagen, Denmark and London, England. It is a software and consulting company specializing in information retrieval in networked environments. Index Data helps companies and organizations such as libraries, universities and museums share structured information in interoperable ways, utilising open, vendor-independent standards such as Z39.50, XML and Dublin Core. It is among the world's leading experts on managing distributed information using the Z39.50 protocol. Index Data has supplied software and consultancy to several of the leading library system vendors, and its software tools are some of the most widely used in the library sector.

Exalead SA (Exalead)

Exalead is an SME, founded by Francois Bourdoncle in 1999, that provides high-performance information access solutions for very large information bases (i.e. AOL France). Exalead's major research activity is centered on core XML technologies, statistical linguistics (used for automatic keyword thesaurus building) and information retrieval for corporate search engines and portals. XML technologies are wrapped into a documentary programming language called ExaScript. Major ExaScript products features are: the ability to natively treat XML classes, multiple dispatch, regular expressions (with Unicode support), and parametric classes, persistent XML Object, and Java support.

Universite Paris-Nord, Laboratoire d'Informatique (Paris 13)

The Laboratoire d'Informatique de Paris-Nord (LIPN) is a joint laboratory of the Paris-Nord University and of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The Knowledge representation and Natural Language team is composed of 9 professors and assistant professors. Its main research axes are 1) Natural Language Processing and corpus semantics for text understanding (variable depth understanding, limited understanding, information extraction) and 2) Knowledge Extraction from texts (lexical resource and domain knowledge acquisition, for example SynoTerm and Terminae). The RCLN team has a long experience in computational terminology and sub-language processing (medical, legal, genomic domains).

ALMA Bioinformatica is a Spanish SME that offers outsourcing and consultancy services to clients who wish to have access to expert bioinformatics resources and technology. The company also develops innovative solutions to specialized bioinformatics problems. Their principal areas of expertise are bioinformatics systems for DNA microarrays experiments, information extraction systems, protein structure prediction and genomics.

Jozef Stefan Institute, Department of Intelligent Systems (JSI)

The principal goals of the Department of Intelligent Systems at JSI are to develop a computational theory of intelligence and to develop high-impact practical applications in areas such as intelligent information systems, data analysis, decision making, intelligent agents, medicine, ecology, language technologies, intelligent manufacturing, and economy.

Founded in 1958, the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Tsinghua University is well known for its significant contributions and achievements in the research and development of computer technology in China.
