Petri Myllymäki

Petri.Myllymaki@hiit.fi

Petri Myllymäki obtained his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science at University of Helsinki in 1991 and his Ph.D. in 1995, and he became a Docent in computer science in 1999. Dr. Myllymäki is one of the co-founders of the Complex Systems Computation (CoSCo) research group, and he has over 15 years of experience in research in the area of intelligent systems. His current special research interests are focused in Bayesian and information-theoretic modeling, in particular with models such as Bayesian networks or finite mixture models. He has been an editorial board member, program committee member and reviewer for several international scientific journals and conferences, and he has published over 70 scientific articles in his research area. He has also worked as a project manager in numerous applied research projects with companies like Ekahau, BayesIT, Nokia, Kone, StoraEnso, Space Systems Finland/ European Space Agency, ABB and AlmaMedia, and the co-operation has lead to a number of fielded applications and patents. Dr. Myllymäki is currently working as a professor at the Department of Computer Science of University of Helsinki, and as a principal scientist at HIIT, a joint research institute of University of Helsinki and Helsinki University of Technology.

Wray Buntine

Dr. Wray Buntine relocated from the USA to Helsinki Finland in January 2002 to join CoSCo. Formerly at UC Berkeley, NASA Ames Research Center and most recently Google, he is internationally known for his theoretical and applied work in decision trees (e.g., author of IND tree software and model averaging methods since applied to language modelling), and Bayesian graphical modelling (e.g., holder of the most cited article in JAIR), and has taught Graduate courses at Stanford University and UC Berkeley. He has served on many international conferences and journal boards. In addition to his academic career, he has a strong development background and was lead architect and developer responsible for product development life-cycle (design, development, beta-testing) of PSE, a 24/7-uptime, scalable, client-server internet product for personalization beta-tested at Cisco Systems in 2001.

Ville Tuulos

I'm preparing my MSc thesis on modeling natural language in large dynamical environments such as IRC discussions. My intention is to develop a prototype of a content-based chat search engine (see Irchiver).

Generally I'm interested in frustrating complexities in human-related phenomena and their (and other) large scale computational models.

Visit my Internet prensence for further information.
